Another event to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Caritas Hong Kong was the "70th Anniversary Thanksgiving Mass and Gala Dinner", held on July 29, 2023. We would like to express our gratitude to friends and partners from all walks of life who celebrated this significant milestone together with us.

The Thanksgiving Mass took place at 3p.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, with Most Rev Stephen Chow Sau Yan, S.J., Bishop of Hong Kong, presiding. Over 400 guests, partners, parishioners and Caritas staff attended the Mass. The Mass served as an opportunity for us to express gratitude for the continuous support and companionship of numerous benefactors over the years and to thank God for His guidance and blessings throughout Caritas' seventy-year journey.

After the Thanksgiving Mass, the guests proceeded to the Caritas Community Hall for a celebratory tea gathering. The event kicked off with an exciting lion dance performance by the Caritas Chai Wan Marden Foundation Secondary School Lion Dance Club. The two lions “spewed out” a couplet that read "Walking together with love, lighting up the future with hope", bringing the atmosphere to a climax. During the gathering, congratulatory videos from Caritas Internationalis, Caritas Asia and Caritas Japan were also screened, highlighting the connection and care among Caritas members.

During his speech at the tea gathering, Bishop Michael Yeung expressed his gratitude to every member of the Caritas family for their support and dedication. He also offered heartfelt congratulations and expressed hope for the 70th anniversary of Caritas. He said, "Seventy years is a significant period of time, witnessing not only Caritas' growth in scale but also extension of the power of love. Here, I wish Caritas would continue 'touching lives with life,' shining brightly, benefiting the community and manifesting the love of God."

The celebratory dinner in the evening featured over 70 tables, accommodating around 900 guests. Among the attendees were representatives from Caritas Asia, Caritas Macau and the social welfare sector, benefactors, colleagues who have served in Caritas for 25 years or over and senior former colleagues. Friends from various sectors gathered together at this joyous occasion to celebrate Caritas' 70th anniversary and to share its fruitful achievements through seven decades of dedication.

During the dinner, a quiz named "How Well Do You Know Caritas?" was held to test the attendees' knowledge about Caritas. Everyone enthusiastically participated in the game, hoping to win a prize. Members of the Caritas Coordination Committee took the stage afterward to perform the new Caritas song, "Walking with Caritas", which highlights Caritas’ spirit and mission, “Love in the Service of Hope”. Each attendee was also presented with a special 70th anniversary publication and a commemorative gift pack. Every item in the pack was carefully selected, reflecting Caritas' gratitude towards the guests.

Since its establishment in 1953, Caritas has overcome numerous challenges and trials, bringing transformative changes to many individuals in need. We look forward to celebrating more anniversaries with the public, and we hope to provide care and warmth to more people in need, bringing them a brighter and more promising future.
