Caritas Gallery
The past seven decades have seen many significant events at Caritas, which created precious memories for generations of its members. However, during the 1950s and 1960s, resources and technology were limited, and the organization underwent challenges of time and relocation, resulting in a relatively scarce collection of historic photos and memorabilia. Fortunately, with the kind assistance of colleagues from different services and departments, extensive consultations and dedicated collection efforts, the anniversary exhibition was able to showcase photographs and items of historical significance. These include Bishop Lawrence Bianchi's letter to appeal for resources for the charity bazaars held in1963, exchange coupons issued by the Hong Kong Catholic Social Welfare Conference in 1965, the 1969 charity bazaar booklet, changing designs of the Caritas logo since the 1950s, employee identification cards from the 1980s or 1990s and pre-construction photos of the Caritas House in Caine Road provided by Mr. Cheng Po Hung.
Growth rings were the design concept of the exhibition, symbolizing how Caritas' services have left imprints like concentric circles over the years. Caritas' four major services have expanded in scale and in scope, impacting and helping an increasing number of people in need. The exhibition utilizes technology and various elements, such as timelines, photographs, augmented reality (AR) animations, virtual reality (VR) games, wishing trees and display cases of historical items to present the milestones of Caritas' journey. It allows everyone to look back on Caritas' contribution and appreciate its growth. Through the stories of people, events and objects showcased in the exhibition, the public can learn that Caritas' mission of "Love in the Service of Hope" has remained steadfast in this ever-changing world.
