Rev. Joseph T.L. Yim assumed the position of Chief Executive of Caritas - Hong Kong
Rev. Joseph T.L. Yim was born in Hong Kong in 1952. In 1972, he answered a calling to enter the Holy Spirit Seminary and was ordained in Hong Kong in 1979. He has served in various parishes, worked with youth development at the Holy Spirit Seminary and also taught at the Seminary of Philosophy and Theology. He pursued further studies in the United States and Rome in 1986 and 2004 respectively. In 2008, Rev. Yim joined Caritas - Hong Kong and in 2015, he assumed the position of Chief Executive.
Establishment of Caritas Mother Teresa Hall and Caritas Mother Teresa School
Caritas Mother Teresa Hall is the second residential facility under Caritas that provides accommodation and care services for teenage girls. It collaborates with Caritas Mother Theresa School, an on-site school for social development funded by the Education Bureau, to provide residents with mainstream curriculum for comprehensive education and development.
Opening of Caritas Jockey Club Tsuen Wan Social Service Building
Caritas established a diversified service centre in Tsuen Wan as early as 1962 to serve the needy in the area. The new building not only provides holistic care services for children, the elderly, people with disabilities, grassroots families and underprivileged groups, but has also developed into a “community hub” that encourages service users from different backgrounds and ages to support each other and actively participate in building an inclusive community.
Establishment of Caritas Jockey Club Resource and Support Centre for Carers
Caritas Jockey Club Resource and Support Centre for Carers received a donation from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to provide comprehensive support services for caregivers of the elderly.
Establishment of Caritas Computer Workshop as a self-finance social enterprise
In 2001, Caritas Computer Workshop was established to provide training programmes for youth. It offers basic computer installation and repair skills training to young people who are receiving Comprehensive Social Security Assistance.
In 2018, the “Caritas Computer Workshop – CTRL+Z” opened in Kowloon Bay, and the original Workshop was relocated to To Kwa Wan Industrial Building. It officially became a self-financing social enterprise.
Ground-breaking ceremony of revitalisation of Grade I historical building - The Old Dairy Farm Senior Staff Quarters
In 2015, Caritas partnered with Pokfulam Village Cultural Landscape Conservation Limited to initiate the “The Pokfulam Farm” project. It was successfully included in the Batch IV of Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme launched by the Development Bureau. Focussing on the restoration and revitalisation of the Old Dairy Farm Senior Staff Quarters,
the project was commenced in 2019 and completed in 2021. In April 2022, the Pokfulam Farm was open to the public, aiming to showcase the local history, culture and ecological aspects of the Pokfulam area, as well as the Old Dairy Farm and Catholic heritage.
Launch of the Caritas Vocational, Professional and Moral Education Scheme (VPM Scheme)
The VPM Scheme was launched to provide a clear pathway for students to pursue vocational and professional education and training, offering a seamless and diverse “through train” from secondary to higher education. The scheme enhances students' competitiveness and helps them become virtuous and competent professionals.
Relocation of Caritas St. Francis Kindergarten
Caritas St. Francis Kindergarten was established in 1968 in Caine Road. Later the Education Bureau approved its construction of a new campus at 2/F, Facilities Block, Po Shek Wu Estate in Sheung Shui. The Kindergarden was officially relocated to the new campus in September 2023.
